Mold Development Requirements
To grow all molds requre moisture nutrients and oxygen. Various molds flourish under
different temperatures. The chart below indicates the range in which various molds
can grow and the optimum temperature for growth.
Know the Signs of Mold in Feed:
- Reduced feed intakes or excessive sorting of feeds.
- Caking of feed in storage units along with multiple colors growing on feed, feed bunk, etc. (pink, green, orange, black, white.)
- Cows eating dirt.
- Open heifers with swollen udders.
- Low disease resistance (cows taking a long time for recovery or antibiotics not getting favorable response.)
- Poor reporduction efficiency (Too many cows are repeat breeders even after showing good heats.)
What Should You Do if You Discover Mold in Your Feed?
- Don't feed
- Discard moldy feed
- Clean or screen grain
- If you must feed
- Dilution is the solution
- Supplement Accel MX600 at a rate of 1 pound per 12 head.
